About Red
Red comes from many intersections and is deeply informed by their identities at these places. Their work focuses on relationships to place and each other and emotional processing to build robust processes, relationships, and communities in the pursuit of thriving futures for everyone.
Raised in rural Massachusetts as multi-racial individual, Red draws strength and power from existing in-between places. As an Asian-American, their identities help them access to institutions and an understanding of colonial systems to leverage resources and processes for other people of the global majority. As a queer non-binary person, they excel at holding complexity and plurality of truths.

What is Red Dawn?
Red skies in the morning sailors take warning, red skies at night, sailors delight
This adage shows up in many places historically, but for me, I heard it most often from my grandfather in the mornings before school. He taught me that the color of the sky could tell us if there was going to be a storm that day.
Meteorologically, this adage actually has some credence, the red color of the sky is from the long wave-length of red light refracting on dust particulate and moisture in high pressure systems moving in from the west.
These red skies in the morning indicate the pending arrival of a storm. Storms have deep symbolism for me, representing change and shifts often the inevitable kind. Our bodies instinctively respond to storms, telling us to be prepared.
Red Dawn embraces the idea that a storm is coming and it’s up to us to be prepared. Our current systems will not withstand the incoming storms of climate change, cultural and biodiversity loss among others. Red Dawn helps organizations, individuals, and communities begin to move in ways that will help them weather the storms.
Theories of Change
Mixed Spaces
As we imagine the world we want to live in, we know that this world will be full of many people from many different backgrounds and lived experiences. Imagining and working towards this world requires us to actively practice being in relationship with others, especially in mixed spaces where power and privilege are present and must be navigated. We must simultaneously reckon with, acknowledge, and take into account the violent history of colonialism while offering each other the opportunity to grow, heal, and learn ways of living outside of the colonial paradigm
